MOVIN’ ON UP

I believe there are thousands of women of color in corporate who feel silenced by an inner-voice that has been conditioned to believe that the odds are stacked against them, so why even try to move up?!?

I believe the reality is titles like: CEO, CMO, CFO… are not so far fetched but the truth is most women of color try not to say too much, go under the radar, and have little to show for all of their hard work.

My mission is to finally teach you how to communicate in an authentic way that allows you to take back control of your voice (your true power) and finances so that you can become the next Black, Latina, Asian, and Indian sister who claims the top corporate positions and live a life you truly love.

I believe your circumstances are unique, so I teach in a way that gives you amazing support and customized help. (unlike most programs, which offer cookie-cutter information that is impossible to implement alone.)

I believe in making communication EFFORTLESS: I help my clients move up in corporate without making them spend hundreds of hours doing worksheets, watching boring lectures, or making them purchase multiple programs.

This is NOT more work. This is a sisterhood and finally a place for you to come for unconditional support and guidance.

HI, I’M SHERHARA DOWNING

Hi, I’m Sherhara!

I’m going to share with you something I usually don’t share about myself…

I had a big contract that got renewed year after year with a Fortune 500 Company (that most women dream of.) This position allowed me to travel the world speaking in front of thousands of people a day. I was the face of the company.

I am thankful I worked for a corporate company that honored diversity and gave a girl from Houston, Texas a microphone and a solid paycheck for so many years. But before I ever moved up, I spent a lot of time down.

As much as I hate to admit it, I dreaded the idea of being in the same place year after year, not growing my skills, or contributing more.

I knew I had tons to offer, but I just didn’t know how to articulate what was next. I didn’t know how to present myself in a way that would open other opportunities for me.

(I knew it wasn’t going to be as easy as my world famous Rice Krispy Treats!)

THEN ONE DAY I REALIZED SOMETHING…

Then one day while eating lunch, my colleague exploded. I could tell she was really frustrated that day, but I didn’t expect would come next.

She blurted out to me in her thick Venezuelan accent,

“I just don’t understand Sherhara! How do you just say everything right?!?

I have something in my mind that I want to say, but it never come out the way I want it!

I’m missing something and it has me feeling stuck!”

I just sat there in shock as she continued to vent and vent… to the point that she began beating herself up. Her usual calm and collected demeanor instantly vanished. She was fed-up and exhausted.

Finally, without thinking I just blurted out, “Just be you! You know what’s on your heart, so just let it out. Express yourself the way you know best and be confident about it!”

In that exact moment, I realized something profound, something I had never realized…

Communication isn’t effortless for everyone… but it should be.

I learned I didn’t need the exact words to plan what was next for me. I just needed to start by communicating my authority in an authentic way and helping others to do the same. I learned how to use your voice to express your leadership and how to not feel ashamed in being your authentic self.

And most of all I realized I wanted to be the person to liberate so many women through effective communication.

AUTHORITY & AUTHENTICITY

Helping women of color use their voice to move up in business and live the life they’ve dreamed of is what makes me feel on top of the world.

I love seeing the satisfaction of a woman who finally feels in control of her upward mobility because she is expressing her authority and authenticity like never before.

But, here’s the truth…

so many of us want to move up in our careers, but it can feel so exhausting.

You’re probably repeating to yourself, “Can I just live? Can I just be me???”

But let’s keep it real, history whispers to you that you shouldn’t lead because not only are you a woman, but a black woman, an Asian woman, a Latina. A double minority.

All throughout schooling and beyond you were the only “one.” You had to translate your look, your sound, style, and hair — not just as an expression of who you are but to fit in or at least get them to understand you. I get it. It has been a hard climb.

In an effort to keep it real, you find it hard to strike a balance of who you are and who corporate perceives you to be.

How do you express your leadership without being bossy or a bitch? Or by hiding and pretending to be someone you’re not? – and that’s as real as it gets.

It’s time to use your voice to move on up in corporate. It’s time to learn a better way.

(because putting in extra hours, sacrificing left and right, and sucking up is not the only way to get the recognition and raise you deserve.)

Nothing makes me happier than helping women like us become powerful executives that create financial stability and freedom for themselves and others.

The “Movin’ On Up” Mastermind is the only interactive corporate communication program designed specifically for women of color.
