Imagine your brain to be a closet. What does it look like? How big? Long? Wide? How many drawers, shelves, and hangers are in there? If it’s as big and vast I believe mine to be, how in the heck would I be able to find anything?!! Especially if it’s a hot mess!
Our brains are something like this. But like a well-organized closet no matter how big…you can find things. Organize your brain, like you should your closet and when you need something you know exactly where to go to get it.
However, I know it doesn’t always work like that. Shoot, the biggest shelf in my closet is the floor! I’m really ambitious when it comes to keeping my closet in order but I always fall to the depths of mess and then organize once more.
You have to treat the ideas, thoughts, and words in your brain like a closet—keep it organized. The reason you have a hard time saying exactly what you want is your lack of organizing.
If you want to express yourself, persuade a client, or close a deal you must put some order to the thoughts in your head.
Effective communicating does not happen by chance. It’s the result of preparation and practice. When you hear, “Spit Don’t Swallow”—it’s about taking the thoughts in your head and getting them out. And to be effective, you need to get them out the right way.
So when your brain feels like mush. Or you’re tired of saying, “I didn’t say what I really wanted.” Then it’s time to get organized!
